Story.

Alison ‘Ali’ Goodrum is an award winning milliner practicing under the name of Goodrum & Merryweather.

Ali took her first millinery class, somewhat by chance, when living just around the corner from The Hat Works museum in Stockport, NW England. That was back in 2015 and she has not stopped hatting since then.  She now resides in the ‘fine city’ of Norwich and has an attic studio located up in the rafters: quite literally having her head in the clouds. Dividing her time between her complementary interests of making, illustrating and writing, Ali comes from a long line of wordsmiths and scribblers. Indeed, the gloriously poetic Merryweather name is a throwback to her paternal great grandmother, Sarah Elizabeth Merryweather (1889-1970), who is reputed never to have been without a pencil in her hand.

Ali is proud to support a number of brain tumour charities through her millinery practice. For further details, please refer to her Story In Hope, which is profiled on the Brain Tumour Research charity website here and also her Brain Injury and Me testimony, which is profiled on the Headway (the Brain Injury Association) charity website here.

Alongside her millinery, Ali holds a PhD (awarded 2001) and has worked for over twenty years in the art & design field as a university professor and dress historian. For more on her academic profile and publications, please refer to the Norwich University of the Arts website and Style Stakes blog.

Ali is represented by the literary and broadcast agent, Peters Fraser & Dunlop, London.
